As a result of the historic 1,000-year flood the City experienced in April 2023, the existing City Hall building was significantly damaged and needs replacement. The building, originally built in 1969, served as a central point for City business and engagement with public officials. However, the facility has been unable to evolve to meet the needed functions of a collaborative community and innovative staff. Additionally, due to the growth of the City and the staff serving it, the building was insufficient in size to house staff in a singular location.This project seeks the input of City neighbors to establish a set of principles that will guide the design and construction of a reimagined City Hall building, suited to meet the needs of today and tomorrow’s neighbors and businesses. The effort is led by the City’s Infrastructure Task Force in partnership with Dickey Consulting Services, Inc. and the American Institute of Architects' student chapter at Florida Atlantic University.Input will be collected through a series of five workshops, each reviewing a different element of the visioning process such as spacing allocation, amenities, and financing and procurement options. Reimagining City Hall

The City of Fort Lauderdale is developing a high-quality trail system designed for pedestrians and bicyclists who want low-stress routes and safe separation from traffic, serving as an alternate transportation system and a recreational option for residents and visitors alike.When complete, LauderTrail will use 8 miles of existing trails, incorporate 3 miles of programmed trails, and add 31 miles of new trails. The labyrinth of trails criss-crossing the city will connect 270 businesses, 45 parks and green spaces, 35 neighborhoods, 17 bus routes, 12 schools, 12 Water Taxi stops, and two railway stations.LauderTrail continues to be a true community effort, planned and led by a team of residents from every corner of the City. The overall plan of the proposed trail system is divided into five segments -- Eastside Trail, Central Loop, Southeast Trail, Southwest Trail, and Northside Trail. Segments 1 and 2 -- The Eastside Trail and Central Loop -- are moving into the design phase.The Eastside Trail will run approximately 4.9 miles, weaving from from NW Flager Avenue at NW 4th Street to N Dixie Highway at NE 17th Court. The trail will connect FAT Village, Holiday Park, Victoria Park, George English Park, and more.The Central Loop covers 5.8 miles between westside neighborhoods, the existing Riverwalk, and the spine trail parallel to FEC tracks, connecting Mills Pond Park, Sailboat Bend, the Brightline station, Carter Park, and more.MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD!You are invited to a public meeting to discuss plans for LauderTrail, a citywide system of walking and biking trails! LauderTrail: Connecting FTL

DC Alexander Park is undergoing a transformation into a vibrant, beautiful, and welcoming spot for locals and visitors alike. Nestled between Seabreeze Boulevard and A1A just south of SE 5th Street, the 1.2-acre oceanfront park is in an ideal location just across the street from the Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Center.The $9.6 million renovation project at D.C. Alexander Park began in early 2023 following a unanimous vote from Fort Lauderdale’s City Commission to hire Shiff Construction &amp; Development Inc. to lead the project.The park, previously a low-profile green space with palm trees and a small parking lot, is being brought to life with improvements that include an elevated section offering views overlooking the ocean, a new playground, improved lighting for pedestrians, and other features that add to the beauty of our world-class city. The famed Whispering Giant sculpture will be preserved and lush landscaping will bring new energy to the area.The new vision for DC Alexander Park is part of the City’s effort to build a healthy and engaging community while improving access to and enjoyment of our beach, waterways, parks, and open spaces for everyone. The Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Center recently opened to the public following completion of its largest renovation project to date. This venue, located on the beach barrier island, is home to the International Swimming Hall of Fame and an iconic 27-meter dive tower. These improvements continue the legacy and tradition of Fort Lauderdale as a leader and pioneer among aquatics centers that began in 1928 when the City built the first Olympic-size swimming pool in Florida. Since that time, the City has celebrated 10 world records and hosted countless events and champions.Under a total cost of approximately $47 million, the City was able to include the following elements and features in the renovation project:New 27-meter dive tower with multiple diving platforms and springboardsNew 50-meter competition pool and refurbished 50-meter training poolNew spaNew filtration system, pumps, and chlorination systemsNew stadium lightingNew amenity viewing decksTwo LED video scoreboardsOmega Swiss timing/scoring systemGrandstands with capacity for more than 1,500 spectatorsNew locker rooms and a weight roomNew main entry plaza, bathrooms, concessions, ticket office, and meeting roomsParking and drainage improvementsNeighbors and visitors can access the Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Center at 501 Seabreeze Boulevard seven days a week to use the lap pools and diving tower levels up to 3-meters.
