Currently housed in a building dating back to the 1950s, the City of Fort Lauderdale Police Department is thrilled that progress continues toward the construction of a new headquarters and parking garage. The 191,000-square-foot, three-story facility will be situated at 1300 W. Broward Boulevard and feature training rooms, public meeting areas, and community space where residents and officers can work together on crime prevention and safety initiatives.
The new FLPD headquarters will provide workspace and state-of-the-art technology to a department with over 700 sworn and non-sworn personnel. The energy-efficient facility is designed in a way to be open and welcoming to the community served by the department, conveying a strong sense of civic presence and transparency.
With the increase in available space, the department will be able to relocate personnel and facilities to the new headquarters, including an evidence warehouse and firearm training facilities. The current headquarters, built in 1958, will be demolished and the land will be used for a portion of the community center and a new access road.
FLPD and the City of Fort Lauderdale continue to have conversations and conduct public outreach efforts with residents, businesses, the City Commission, and other stakeholders to ensure an open and transparent process. For project inquiries, email newflpdhq@fortlauderdale.gov.
