Strategic Plan Goal

The City's Press Play Fort Lauderdale 2029 Strategic Plan(External link) articulates Public Safety as a focus area for the next five years with the goal to build a beautiful and welcoming community.

The City is committed to creating a beautiful community that is welcoming to all. As implementation of the $200 million voter-approved parks bond continues, new green spaces and parks will be added, and existing parks and facilities will be revived to provide offerings for all. These spaces will attract visitors while also creating a sense of place for neighbors. Efforts to improve the maintenance, cleanliness, and appearance of public facilities, parks, green spaces, and landscapes will continue providing for a positive and recognizable Fort Lauderdale image. Additionally, work toward a new state of the art City Hall will commence. As the central public location for city government, this facility will be well suited for the needs of neighbors, elected officials, and City staff.

FY 2025 City Commission Priority

This goal was further emphasized with the selection of Public Spaces and Community Initiatives as a priority for FY 2025 during the City Commission's Annual Prioritization Workshop on January 19, 2024. The focus of this priority is to enhance the City public spaces such as medians, increase historic preservation, adress broadband connectivity, and support education efforts.

Public Spaces and Community Initiatives
Key Themes for FY 2025 include:

  • Neighborhood Masterplans
  • Increase support for residents to preserve Sailboat Bend's historic district
  • Increase ease of historic preservation (e.g., fees, incentives, and permits)
  • Opportunities for neighborhood driven improvements
  • Continue efforts to mitigate the impact of vacation rental expansion and the Live Local Act
  • Address broadband connectivity issues
  • Partner with the school board to prevent neighborhood school closures
  • Advocate for teh reinvestment of City generated ad valorem to the Schoo Board to come back into the City
  • Address the gap in educational excellence
  • Enhance median maintenance
  • Citywide cleanliness and maintenance
